Welcoming
Welcome to PPGE/CPAN! We are happy that you are considering our program as an option for education at the stricto sensu level. Knowing that information for the decision of where to study is important, we would like to share some information that we consider fundamental. The first is that we are a postgraduate program in education with a concentration area in social education. Social education is the articulating element of PPGE/CPAN and the research we have developed has been focused on educational phenomena from the most diverse themes (cultural studies, gender studies, educational policies, studies on the process of teachers’ illness, education and health, teacher training, education in situations of adversity, special education, etc.). This research represents the articulation between the studies developed by teachers, their networks, groups, and lines of research. All the articulation of this collective work is based on a perspective that understands education as always related to its historical context. By focusing on education, it is possible to identify different perspectives, practices, and performances throughout history, in such a way that, currently, we see its gaze turned to the ecological cause, to gender issues, and to human rights, among other themes. These issues are present inside and outside the school institutions and are the focus of both formal and non-formal education. Yes, all education is social, but the social aspects that we call transformative do not always accompany educational practices. In other words, even though all educational work involves “the social”, because it is a human production, such work is not always permeated by a vision of the totality of the human being, or focused on the alternative construction of ways of existing in the world, in ways that can transform the extremely excluding reality that we live in. Therefore, the social is more than a quality; when incorporated into the concept of education it becomes a noun that gives its name to the counter-hegemonic formative practice, which aims to build a more inclusive school, a society based on other values, which has as its horizon the transformative process in all senses.
Now that you know a little about our understanding of education and social education, another relevant piece of information concerns the diversity of our faculty. We are a program with researchers from various fields of knowledge, which guarantees a wide spectrum of investigative possibilities. We strongly suggest that the candidates seek information about the research being carried out by the faculty through the Lattes curriculum (available here on the website, by clicking on the People tab) and structure a project articulated to the research interests captured in this search.
Our classes take place in person, and are full time classes (morning, afternoon, and evening). Eventually, some courses may be offered remotely, with the participation of professors from other institutions and countries.
All the other information you need to know is on this website. Feel free to walk your paths, find what you need, and of course, if you still have questions, send us an e-mail and we will be happy to help you. See you soon!!
